Defining “success”

In my day job, one of the things my team and I do, is help veterinary clinics fill their job vacancies faster.

Alan and I have a veterinary profession job board – amidst a number of huge competitors, while we’re just the new kid on the block.

It’s a tough market – especially as we’re doing our best to show vet clinics another way of recruitment marketing.

All they’re used to doing – all they’ve done for decades – is post-and-pray with their job ads. They post them to a job board – some of which are generalist boards (so truckies who love animals and think Downunder will be a great place to live – apply as well) – and then the clinics pray a suitably qualified and experienced veterinary professional will apply. That’s all they’ve done and all they know. They end up praying for months and months – even years sometimes. Even though this way no longer works and hasn’t worked since before the Pandemic.

But still they keep on doing it.

We have a different way – a way that actually gets results in about eight weeks, not eight months (or longer). But because they’ve always done what they’ve always done, educating them is hard work.

Really hard work!

But today, after working alongside a client who sent a “mayday” call to me about nine weeks’ ago, he told me he’d filled his vacancy. He also told me he’d had more “relevant” and “credible” applications in the short time we’d been on his team, than in all the time and on all the other job boards combined! Wow!

Definitely #smilingontheinside after that phone call … especially as the day had been pretty stressful and (it felt) somewhat combative, prior.

It felt great to be able to write this Linkedin post… I quite enjoyed using the aviation theme – given the women I work with also have an aviation connection.
