Hamilton to Ohakune

As is sometimes the case, even the best plans can go awry. And they did. Ever so slightly. But only by about 60 minutes. Instead of leaving home at 14:00 it was around 15:00. Which meant arriving at our destination in the dark.

Night 001 – Ohakune

With high winds and foul weather forecast for most of New Zealand, Alan checked wind and rain forecasts and decided that the centre of the North Island was probably the best. Read: calmest. And it was.

En route to Ohakune I felt very pleased and proud of myself – I managed to convert the Zenec multi function screen from German to English, and fix the correct time to NZST.

Dinner at The Cypress Tree Restaurant and Bar

Although I’d clocked up thousands of “incidental” steps through the day, I hadn’t had my “dedicated” walk – yet!

I was happy to walk into town by myself, but Alan joined me. #smilingontheinside.

We dinner at The Cypress Tree Restaurant and Bar on Clyde Street. One thing I hadn’t factored was the possibility of rain on the walk back home. Eeeek!

It rained while we were eating and had – thank God! – stopped long enough for us to get home before the skies opened again – with a vengeance! We got damp on the return. But it could’ve been a lot worse.

Although there was a muck up with our order – it got lost in the system somewhere – and then by the time it was found, there was no ham for Alan’s pizza – the manager made good and we left smiling.
