Man! It was COLD!

#smilingontheinside – Sunday 15 June 2025

Alan dropped me off outside Jubilee Park yesterday, and he continued into the Showgrounds to the Farmers’ Market.

Going to the Farmers’ Market has been a regular Sunday morning event now for well over a year. It’s one of our rituals. When Alan’s on an overnight Saturday, then I go by myself.

It was another gloomy day in the Wonderful Waikato – no sign of sun in the sky at all. Foggy, damp, gloomy. Which meant cold walking through Jubilee Park because the sun struggles to penetrate the tree canopy in summer, let alone in winter.

Quilting Mojo Went AWOL

I had grand plans of cutting up beautiful fabric and then sewing it all together again in a different order yesterday … I ironed the fabric, found the pattern templates – one I’d used for the very first time back in the very first Lockdown – but then my quilting mojo went AWOL.

So all of that is for another day – when I’ll be #smilingontheinside with a bit more ooomph!

My Week of Walking

I clocked up the recommended “healthy”150 minutes (two and a half hours) of exercise last week and kept the step climbing promises I’d made to myself.

Even though I didn’t exceed it by much – a mere 32 minutes – I’m still proud of every single one of those minutes.

I started climbing steps (3 repeats) in the 20th week of 2025 – Monday 12 May – I’ve now climbed a total of 4,808 steps. (756 + 1008 + 1260 + 1764 = 4,808). #accomplishment #selfcare #selflove

Seven Repeats Last Week

Last week was a total of 1,756 steps #smilingontheinside. This was after a week of climbing virtually no steps (conference in Wellington the week before).

Because of Wellington – which would’ve been 6x repeats – to maintain my progress, I jumped straight back into 7x repeats. Which is where I would’ve been had we not gone to Wellington. I think that’s my all-or-nothing tendency playing out there!

I’m pleased. I know that I’ve strengthened my personal resiliency because I’ve kept a personal promise, have a huge sense of achievement (1,764 steps is a lot!) and I’ve improved my fitness and health. #selfcare #selfpromisekept #imworthit! #selflove

Apples to / with Apples

It’s easy to downplay that achievement by reminding myself that there are people who climb that amount of steps every week. But comparing myself to that kind of person isn’t giving myself credit for what I have achieved. And only does my head in – because for comparison to be real, it needs to be apples vs apples.

Comparing myself to an Elite Athlete (what normal person climbs 5,000 steps/week?) when I’m GenPop (General Population) isn’t fair – to them or me.

The thing to do, instead, is compare my last four week period – of no steps at all – to my previous four week period. #smilingontheinside!
