I sure have felt my knees this week

Self Promise Honoured

I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself with my efforts this week. Yes! I know – it’s just and only one week. But I did it! I promised myself I’d climb the steps that link Beerescourt Road and Ann Street three times each on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

And I honoured that promise! Seven hundred and fifty six steps later!

Resilience Account Topped Up

The promises we make to ourselves are the easiest ones to break – because they’re the ones that no one else knows about.

Self promises are also one of the components of #resilience.

This week, I’ve been topping up my Resilience Bucket – one drop – one step climb – at a time. I’m making a positive contribution to my Resilience Account.

Look at resilience building, and refer to it, however you want, just s’long as you’re always adding to it.

The thing with having a Resilience Account (or Resilience Bucket) is you never know when you’re going to need to spend some … to draw down on that account you’ve been topping up.

CV Fitness Improved

Even though I’ve only climbed 756 steps this week, I know it’s also improved both my cardiovascular fitness and strength.

However minor, I’m pleased to say I’m marginally fitter and stronger than I thought. I was expecting real pain in my calves this week, but that didn’t eventuate – yay! I also noticed that even though it was hard, I was able to make three ascents. Which was a nice surprise considering it’s been >10 years since I last climbed stairs with any seriousness.

This week I’m made a positive contribution to my health. Another way of positively contributing to my Resilience Account #smilingontheinside #resilience

Divinely Grateful

On Thursday, someone I don’t know and would never recognise, decided to drive after he’d been drinking. He drove at the same time someone very (very!) special to me was driving to a place that makes her smileontheinside … she was going dancing.

It’s something she’s been doing on Thursday nights for a very long time.

This under-the-influence driver clipped one car. Apparently, he decided to turn around and investigate. That’s when he smacked into a second car – being driven by my Very Special Person.

I’m Divinely Grateful the only damage done was vehicular and not human. I’m Divinely Grateful to the two police officers who then drove my Very Special Person to her dancing hall … and to the people in Wellington who then picked her up and took her home.

I’m Divinely Grateful to the man who sorted out “wheels” so my Very Special Person is still mobile and able to keep her independence.

Probably a Write-Off

It’s looking likely my Very Special Person’s vehicle will be written off. That car was everything to her – the very first vehicle she’d bought all by herself – it represented agency and independence. And someone who chose to drink and drive wrote it off for her.

Will I ever feel #forgiveness…? Maybe … because no one was hurt. I’m not sure that’d be so easy if my Very Special Person had been injured in any way.

A bit of numbness…

What am I feeling…? definitely relief… and gratitude… Another word is numb… when I think back to what could have been … but for one second, it wouldn’t have been the front of the driver’s side that got smacked up, it would have been the driver’s door … where my Very Special Person was sitting…

All of this got me thinking about how others might feel when their Very Special People are injured or killed by someone who chose to drive under the influence… does forgiveness ever come into it…?

I pray this is a wake-up call for him. I hope it’s the first, last and only time he’s chosen to drive after drinking … whilst under the influence.
