Consecutive Daily Walk No. 1,340

Even though it was pouring down with rain on my morning walk yesterday, I still got to smileontheinside… in a surprise way!

It was absolutely chucking it down with quite a stiff breeze. When it’s windy and wet at the same time, it’s highly probably, likely, your legs get soaked as well. Which doesn’t always happen if it’s raining on a calm day.

Yesterday, as I passed a woman I didn’t know, she told me how much she liked my brightly coloured raincoat. Wow! smilingontheinside big time!

NZ Brand – Moke

Moke hails out of Oamaru – home of the Little Blue Penguin Colony – on the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

I gotta say that every time I wear this raincoat, it makes me smileontheinside because it’s such a happy! raincoat.

Soon though, I think I’m going to have to revert back to my manky ole oilskin – which weighs a tonne – but allows me to look like the Michelin Woman underneath. Because I bought a small size in my Moke raincoat, I can’t wear thick clothes under. Come winter, I doubt it’ll be warm enough – regardless of how fast I walk.

What I like about my trusty, manky ole oilskin is that it’s heavy enough to stop flapping around my legs. It hangs straight down. Which means my legs stay (kinda) dry.

It just doesn’t look particularly elegant. Or pretty.

But what if I made my own…?

I have considered buying some brightly coloured oilskin fabric and sewing myself a fresh oilskin raincoat. But that idea’s still living on One Day Isle. What’s more likely to happen – and a lot cheaper – is to re-oil my existing manky oilskin by following Swandri’s how-to re-oil instructions.
