Amore Roses – through our dining window

This is a sight I never thought I’d ever see through our dining room window: roses in bloom #smilingontheinside!

For as long as we’ve lived in this house (Easter 2012) the view has been nothing but lots of trees and lawn, through our dining room window.

I’ve entertained the notion of planting out a garden immediately outside the floor-to-ceiling window over the years, but that’s as far as it’s got: just a thought. Those thoughts have always stayed a resident on One Day Isle.

However, after seeing one of my newly acquired roses in bloom – which I’m nurturing and talking to daily – I’m even more inspired to plant out a garden right there!

The vision is a raised garden. I’ve seen the framing I’d like, but I don’t have the carpentry skills to erect it myself from scratch.

I imagine companion planting – where flowers and vegetables live companionably together.

Kitset Frames

Right now, I’m leaning towards the two-tier model. This particular model is available at our local kiwi-owned Mitre 10 store and I’m pretty sure the flat pack will fit in the boot of my car.

The marketer in me would loooooove the suppliers to show both before and after images – like the one with chillies in it.

Topsoil

Another step I need to organise is the topsoil. Filling with 40L of nursery-purchased garden bags will be very expensive, so I’m going to need to get topsoil delivered.

Which means answering the question where is it going to go? And then – will I clear it completely so it doesn’t turn into mud? Because I can just imagine My Hero’s response if I buy too much and the excess gets left on the lawn – or wherever – unused, turning to mud – eeeeeek!

Watering Systems

Apart from the fact that my yet-to-be installed garden faces north, it’s also on the same wall as a garden tap. Because watering is going to be critical for survival.

I want to install an irrigation / watering system that runs along the entire length of the planter box. Who would’ve thunked there were so many different types of watering nozzles.
