DAY #1,500 DONE & DUSTED

Sunday 29 August 2021 – Tuesday 07 October 2025 #smilingontheinside – 11 October 2025 I was going to make a big deal about it. But didn’t. I was going to walk Mt Tauhara in Taupo to landmark the day – something monumental. But didn’t. I’ve been-there-done-that (with Mt Tauhara) back in the day – it…

Prototype Completed

Today was Day #1,415 consecutive walking. I completed the van’s custom bed linen prototype. A day of things going not-to-plan, decaf coffee + home made fish and chips. #smilingontheinside

Fallen Trees and Fitted Sheets

My morning walk with Alan brings unexpected tree-crawling requirements after overnight storms. Weekend weather warnings shift van plans from traveling to working – tackling the challenge of resizing non-standard motorhome bedding. From fitted sheets to mattress protectors, turning saggy-baggy bed linen into better fitted comfort for future “aways.”

I Felt Like Quitting – Many Times

This week I moved goalposts so many times you could’ve called me Donald. From 11x step-climbs to 7x daily to somehow 3,000 for the week. Yesterday in pouring rain I completed my final repeats – 3,024 total ascends. Every step felt hard, but I kept going, making deposits into my Resilience Account.

Rain. Rain. And More Rain. Alllll Day! My Raincoat Was Still Damp – ugh! #smilingontheinside – Saturday 28 June 2025 I hadn’t realised that my raincoat hadn’t fully dried out until I went to wear it again for my daily walk. Ugh! Obviously, hanging it up in the garage – over a bucket to catch…

WHATTALOTTAGREEN

Jubilee Park Walkway in Winter Man! It was COLD! #smilingontheinside – Sunday 15 June 2025 Alan dropped me off outside Jubilee Park yesterday, and he continued into the Showgrounds to the Farmers’ Market. Going to the Farmers’ Market has been a regular Sunday morning event now for well over a year. It’s one of our…

A “RED RAIN DAY”

Red Focus rather than Rain Focus Week 5 Day 3/3 = (84×7)x(3)=1,764 steps this week #smilingontheinside – Friday 13 June 2025 This week it feels like it’s done nothing but rain! And then rain some more! And then keep raining! Yes – there have been some dry spells in that, but not enough to get…

I Counted Thirty-Three Rings

Thirty Three Rings = 33 Years Walk #1,368 – staying dry between showers #smilingontheinside – Tuesday 27 May 2025 I was expecting a more pungent “fresh wood” and/or “pine tree” smell as I walked past yesterday’s felled Spruce. But nothing obvious. Which surprised me. However, instead of the usual pine needles, my shoes ended up…

A DOUBLE-LAKE WEEKEND

A Fleet of Model Boats – What a Lovely Surprise! One Weekend – Two Lakes – Two Walks #smilingontheinside – Sunday 25 May 2025 I always #smileontheinside when Alan’s able to join me on a walk when I know he’s pushed for time before he heads off to work. Maybe, just maybe, he always smilesontheinside…
