    Beautiful Autumnal Blue Dome Day

    Beautiful Autumnal Blue Dome Day

Blue Dome Days – they’re a family thing In my family, we refer to certain days as Blue Dome Days. This term, inspired by my mum’s Big Bro – our Uncle Ted – Blue Dome Day, has become a very special way for my sisters, our mum and me to describe those clear, beautiful –…

    Never Say Never…

    Never Say Never…

The Stories We Tell Ourselves It was only at Christmas—when Alan was choosing an off-road bike so we could ride New Zealand’s Cycle Trails together—that I swore I would never get an ebike. As a Has-Been (endurance) cyclist, I told myself the untrue story that ebikes are for cheats. Judgmental, right…? I now realise that…

Yes! – Even in the rain

Yes! – Even in the rain

My Daily Commitment to Walking When I say I walk every day, I’m sure people think that it’s not truly every day—just on fine days or when I feel like it. When I Don’t Walk They might assume that I skip my walks when: The Truth About My Walks But the reality is, I do…

    Lunar Eclipse March 2025

    Lunar Eclipse March 2025

Last night, Alan and I watched the lunar eclipse of a blood moon. Later – through our floor-to-ceiling windows, we witnessed it continue to rise. On clear nights, moonlight floods our home – from the kitchen where the full moon rises in the east, to our bedroom later. Sometimes it seems close enough to touch.

    Remembering a Forgotten Ritual

My very special friend makes scented candles, reminding me to return to mindful dining with candlelight. Recently, at a movie fundraiser, I won a beautiful Amore Rose in the raffle. Another winner kindly gave me his prize too, saying he already had fifteen roses. These unexpected gifts brought double joy.

South Island Holiday – Day 6

South Island Holiday – Day 6

Dunedin + Bluff + Invercargill The weather was really starting to get cold, blustery and outright wintery. Unfortunately, I’d eaten something that had given me massive stomach cramps and was feeling very sorry for myself. I was in quite a bit of pain which meant I wasn’t really that connected to what was going on…

South Island Holiday – Day 5

South Island Holiday – Day 5

Larnach Castle – Dunedin Not many people realise NZ has its very own castle – Larnach Castle. It’s no longer lived in as a family home, but it was until very recently. It’s privately owned; the ballroom can be exclusively hired for private events. Before we visited Larnach Castle we drove out to the Royal…

South Island Holiday – Day 2

South Island Holiday – Day 2

Our first night was “interesting”. We’ve decided that because it’s just the two of us, we’ll keep our bed permanently made up at the back of the van, and using seating around the dining table as our main “living” area. This meant the rear lounge area was converted into a double bed (east-west orientation) made…

South Island Holiday – Day 1

South Island Holiday – Day 1

Our very first South Island motorhome adventure begins! Day 1 takes us from Wellington to Christchurch with Air NZ. Because of important things not working (like central locking) we didn’t get as far south as we’d hoped.
